Job Description
Assists Cytology Pathologist with Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) specimens. Prepares stains, mounts and labels slides. Participates in microscopic screening of cytology preparations. Observes and records tests results.
Job Responsibility
- * Prepares and screens Gyn, Non-Gyn, FNA, and PAP smears according to departmental policies and procedures.
- * Submits abnormal PAP smears to Supervisor/ Pathologist for confirmation.
- * Performs procedures necessary for processing specimens for cytological examinations per established Policies and Procedures.
- * Refers problems and unusual situations to Supervisor/pathologist.
- * Maintains equipment in performing and documenting routine preventive maintenance.
- * Troubleshoots equipment, as necessary, to correct malfunctions, and documents action taken.
- * Utilizes laboratory computer system for procedures necessary for processing specimens according to departmental policies and procedures.
- * Performs special test procedures as directed.
- * Maintains cleanliness of workbench and surrounding area and following established safety and infection control procedures.
- * Assists in revision and update of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Manual.
- * Participates on Quality Improvement Teams and adheres to customer service guidelines.
- Performs related duties as required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Occasional pushing, stooping, stretching, pulling, lifting ( objects 5 to 10 lbs) Frequent standing, sitting, walking, carrying of small objects.
Job Qualification
- B.S. degree in applied science and an accredited cytotechnologist program.
- Licensed by New York State Education Department (NYSED) as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (or as appropriate to area of assignment), required.
- Minimum of one (1) year recent experience in clinical laboratory. Some computer experience, preferred.

The salary range for this position is $61.36-$73.76/hour
