Job Description
Performs a variety of tests and examinations in the Immunopathology/ Analytical Cytometry laboratory utilizing the flow cytometer and Immuno Stainer. Duties include but not limited to, isolating and properly staining cells for flow cytometry and Immuno Stainer, and cutting, staining and/or smearing tissues for histochemical analysis.
Job Responsibility
- * Receives all surgical cases, bloods and fluids in the Immunopathology/ Analytical Cytometry Laboratory.
- Maintains accurate accession log.
- Maintains workflow and quality of work to assure timely accomplishment of assigned workload.
- * Cuts and stains all tissues and/or smears for histochemical analysis or immunopathological diagnoses.Screens all control slides on light microscopy and immunofluorescence cases.Prepares histochemical stains and other reagent for Immunohistochemical stains.
- * Processes all laboratory specimens.
- Process specimens in accordance with the SOPM.
- Maintains accurate records.
- Runs and records controls.
- Documents corrective action for out-of-range controls.
- Results specimens and maintains proper records.
- * Isolates and properly stains cells for Flow Cytometry and immuno stainer;
- Assures that the cytometer and stainer conditions are properly set.
- Assures that all controls fall within designated range and that records are properly kept.
- Follows SOPM procedure.
- * Operates Flow Cytometer./ Immuno Stainer
- Operates Flow Cytometer and stainer according to manufacturer’s specifications.
- Assures that Flow Cytometer and stainer conditions are properly set.
- Assures that all controls are within designated range and that records are properly kept.
- Troubleshoots problems and is able to resolve procedural difficulties.
- Records sample results and reviews current results in light of previous results and clinical data.
- * Performs all routine instrument maintenance properly and on time.
- Flow Cytometer maintenance
- Immuno stainer maintenance
- Other laboratory instrument maintenance.
- * Maintains laboratory regulatory requirements.
- Maintains temperature and quality control records.
- Keeps a current inventory on all dated reagents and chemicals.
- Assures that all safety precautions are followed, i.e., blood borne pathogen standards, chemical hygiene standards, fire safety.
- Assists with updating of the laboratory procedure manual.
- * Participates in conferences and proficiency testing, as required.
- Participates in proficiency testing as supplied by NY State and other private testing agencies as required by law.
- Participates in conferences, as directed.
- * Participates in laboratory development.
- Under management’s direction, implements new staining procedures.
- New instrumentation evaluation.
- Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required. Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Basic Science or related field, preferred.
- Licensed by New York State Education Department (NYSED) as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (or as appropriate to area of assignment), required.
- Minimum of one (1) year work experience and/or training specific to the work being done in the area noted above, required.

The salary range for this position is $52.68-$64.06/hour
