Job Description
Performs a variety of technical tasks to prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination by a Pathologist to include grossing and frozen sections pursuant to established, approved protocols which require limited independent judgment and review.
Job Responsibility
1. Prepares (grosses) tissue specimens for processing including fixation, dehydration, clearing, and embedding in paraffin wax.
2. Operates tissue processors and embedding centers.
3. Utilizes a microtome to cut thin sections of tissue from paraffin blocks in alignment with quality requirements, and mounts onto slides accordingly. 4. Prepare slides for staining and performs routine staining, both through automation or manual processes.
5. Maintain accurate records of all procedures performed, ensuring traceability and compliance.
6. Adhere to strict safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.
7. Perform routine maintenance and quality control checks on laboratory equipment and reagents.
8. Works on mostly routine and transactional assignments, guided by policies, procedures, guidelines and precedent
9. Exercises independent judgment on basic or moderately complex issues regarding job and related tasks
10. May begin to provide work guidance to team members to ensure accurate and timely completion of tasks
11. Majority of contact is internal and administrative oriented while certain jobs may require transactional interaction with vendors or clinical team

Job Qualification
• Associate’s Degree required.
• Current License to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technician or Histological
Technician in New York State required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
• 0-1 years of technical experience, required.

The salary range for this position is $63-$63/hour
