Meet Chandni Patel, who grew her career from intern to a blood bank laboratory operations manager at Plainview and Syosset hospitals. Throughout her time at Northwell, Chandni has been grateful for all the resources that helped her expand her knowledge and confidently progress in her career while receiving support and recognition from her peers and leaders. Today, as a blood bank laboratory operations manager, Chandni is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the blood banks at Plainview and Syosset hospitals, including patient blood management and quality assurance. She conducts quarterly transfusion committee meetings where transfusion practices, ordering practices and usage statistics are reviewed. Chandni also collaborates with other hospitals on transfusion surveillance and transfusion record audits.
Chandni began her career with us in 2009 as a student intern working among multiple Northwell sites, including the Northwell Health Imaging Center for Advanced Medicine, Glen Cove Hospital, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, and North Shore University Hospital (NSUH). The success she found by interning with Northwell, while furthering her education, led her to her next role in 2010 as a lab technologist at South Shore University Hospital. In this position, Chandni performed tests, such as antibody screenings and antibody identification tests. She was also responsible for receiving and maintaining blood inventory and issuing blood products (such as platelets, plasma and more). The following year, Chandni began her role as a blood bank technologist at NSUH, where she was responsible for performing tests, such as antibody titer and cord blood testing, performing quality control, instrument maintenance and more. After six years in this role, she began working as a blood bank supervisor at Long Island Jewish Valley Stream Hospital (LIJVS), where she supervised blood bank staff, performed instrument validation, monitored blood and regent supply, and reviewed daily/monthly quality control. In 2019, Chandni advanced in her role as a blood bank lab operations manager at LIJVS.
Today, Chandni holds the same title while working at both Plainview and Syosset hospitals since 2022. She was able to advance as a leader with the knowledge gained in her past experiences and development programs, including the L-lead program and the high-potential program. The L-Lead program is a leadership certificate designed to help lab leaders improve their skills in quality, operations and more. The high-potential program at Long Island Jewish Valley Stream helps leaders build their abilities through professional development. Chandi shared, “The many learning and growth opportunities provided at Northwell Health helped me achieve success. I also benefitted from constructive feedback, recognition and support from my team and senior colleagues.” Chandni also partook in Northwell’s tuition reimbursement program, graduating with a master’s degree in clinical lab management specializing in blood bank technology in 2018. Chandni enjoys training new employees and working with students in her current role. She also loves that she can work with her dedicated team to provide quality care to patients. “A clinical laboratory career can be very rewarding and Northwell provides many opportunities to grow and explore different specialties, including blood bank, microbiology, histology and more.”

This year during Women’s History Month, we connected with two team members from our Women at Northwell Business Employee Resource Group (BERG), Katherine J. Sanchez and Tameka Wallace. Read on to discover how they foster a community of support for women in the workplace at Northwell Health.
Katherine J. Sanchez, Program Manager – Administration and Health Management, Institute for Community Health & Wellness
This year’s theme of “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations,” deeply resonates with Katherine and her passion for remembering those who paved the way for her to create opportunities for the next generation. She reflects on this while sharing how she began her career with Northwell in 2013 as a patient transporter at North Shore University Hospital. In this role, Katherine escorted and transported patients within the facility, tracked and recorded patient movement, and also picked up and delivered materials and equipment throughout the hospital. One day, Katherine’s manager invited her to sit in on a bed management meeting and this experience sparked her passion for wanting to advance her career in healthcare administration. In 2015, Katherine transitioned to the operating room where she worked to turnover rooms and retrieved supplies for surgeries. At the same time, she volunteered to cover for an admissions secretary, growing her administrative skillset even further. In 2017, Katherine began working as a patient care associate, where she learned phlebotomy and enhanced her patient-centered skills. Two years later, she pivoted from clinical care to a corporate role as a provider enrollment representative working to create agendas, facilitating meetings and conducting research with the goal of ensuring providers were in-network with insurance payors.
In 2021, Katherine transferred to become a medical staff services coordinator, focusing on credentialing for physicians to ensure their credentials were renewed. During this time, Katherine utilized Northwell’s tuition reimbursement program to advance her education and earn her master’s in healthcare administration from Hofstra University. As part of her master’s degree program, she worked in an administrative fellowship at Northwell, where she gained hands-on experience in strategic planning, government affairs and more. Following graduation, this led Katherine to her current role as a program manager in health management where she works to drive meaningful changes within Northwell and keep our team members focused on providing patient-centered care, including preventing health problems and managing chronic conditions effectively.
Katherine has always felt supported in her career development at Northwell. In addition to taking part in Northwell’s tuition reimbursement program, she participated in mentorship programs and received continuous support from her managers, who encouraged her growth while promoting work-life balance so Katherine could both be there to raise her child and grow in her career. “My leaders embodied equity in action, ensuring I have the tools and flexibility to succeed.” She continued, “Northwell did not just give me a job. Northwell gave me a future and I will always be grateful,” shared Katherine. Katherine’s career development has also been positively impacted through the Women at Northwell BERG, especially during Women’s History Month. Since joining the BERG in 2019, Katherine built a network of colleagues, completed stretch assignments, attended events and worked on collaborative projects with BERG members to help further her career.

Reflecting on Women’s History Month, Tameka is inspired by the resilience, strength, and contributions of women. She thinks about those who have paved the way for future generations and the importance of continuing to break barriers and create opportunities for women everywhere. “I feel it is important to recognize and celebrate the achievements of women while fostering an environment where women can thrive, lead, and inspire,” said Tameka. Between 2008 and 2022, Tameka has contributed to significant initiatives at Northwell, including securing SRC accreditations, improving patient outcomes, and driving operational growth. Between 2012 and 2014, Tameka continued her schooling and earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing. From 2016 and 2018, Tameka earned her master’s degree in nursing leadership. She believes this BERG highlights the achievements of women during Women’s History Month, and all year round, while fostering growth and driving meaningful conversations and initiatives that support equity, and leadership development.
Throughout March, Northwell is hosting various events, including leadership panels, networking sessions and educational programs that highlight the contributions of women to provide a platform for sharing stories, inspiring change, and celebrating the power of women in healthcare.

Below learn more about how they embrace equity and inclusion in the workplace, hear about their career journeys and how they find success at Northwell Health.
Siobhan Valentine, Supervisor, Operations, Cohen Children’s Northwell Health Physician Partners General Pediatrics at Battery Park Pediatrics
Siobhan Valentine began her career at Northwell Health in 2014 as a part-time emergency department associate at Lenox Health Greenwich Village in New York City. In this role, Siobhan gained invaluable experience in preparing for the opening of Lenox Health Greenwich Village. She was excited to be one of the first emergency department associates trained and ready to be working at this new facility. As an emergency department associate, Siobhan was trained on how to perform admissions and registrations, and how to assist with pre-admission and pre-registration, and financial functions. She also learned how to assist patients in applying for, or renewing, health insurance coverage. That same year, when the facility opened its doors, Siobhan transitioned to full-time as an emergency department associate and later was promoted to lead emergency department associate in 2015. She later held roles that included emergency room referrals coordinator at Lenox Hill Hospital for eight years, and her current role of supervisor of operations for Cohen Children’s Northwell Health Physician Partners at Battery Park Pediatrics where she oversees daily operations of the practice.
Siobhan is also passionate about her role in the African American/Caribbean Bridges BERG and the impact her membership has on her values and her career journey. “Becoming a member of the African American/Caribbean Bridges BERG has significantly enriched my Northwell career journey,” said Siobhan. “It has opened doors to professional development opportunities, which have expanded my skillset and connected me with colleagues across various departments.” Over the past decade, Siobhan’s career development at Northwell has been supported in many ways. One example is when her leaders encouraged her to reach her full potential by recommending that she participate in Northwell’s Management Accelerator Program (MAP). This experience deepened her understanding of inclusion and equity in the workplace and provided her with practical tools and strategies to build leadership skills and a larger professional network.
Siobhan is also proud to hold the title of events and programs coordinator for the African American/Caribbean Bridges BERG. She has been able to contribute to BERG initiatives, including several local events that Northwell is holding, such as an art competition, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Dr. King’s vision of unity and equality. Siobhan shared what the holiday means to her: “Dr. King’s message motivates me to appreciate the progress we’ve made while continuing to strive for a brighter, more inclusive future.”
Stacey Davis, BSN, RN, Med Surg-BC, Manager, Patient Care, Short Stay Pediatric Unit, Northern Westchester Hospital
Stacey Davis began her career at Northwell Health in 2015 as a behavioral health registered nurse at Phelps Hospital in Westchester. Three years later, she worked as an emergency department staff registered nurse at Northern Westchester Hospital. Due to the rise of COVID-19 in 2020, Stacey began working at Northern Westchester’s field hospital to treat those suffering from the virus. When the field hospital at Northern Westchester closed in 2021, Stacey moved to the short-stay pediatric unit to work as an assistant manager and later her current role as a patient care manager where she leads a team of registered nurses and patient care associates who care for surgical cardiac, bariatric and pediatric patients.
Stacey has always felt supported by Northwell in her career development. One recent example she shared was while she attended Leadership Beginnings as she was transitioning to a manager role. This session helped her connect with fellow leaders and gain insight from others in similar positions. Like Siobhan, Stacey also participated in Northwell’s Management Accelerator Program and her mission to help others and give back to the community led her to join Northwell’s African American/Caribbean Bridges BERG. “Our BERGs provide a necessary sense of community and belonging for Northwell team members,” Stacey shared. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a day of reflection for Stacey and of her desire to give back. During this time, she thinks about all her team does to help others as they do every day. She added, “At Northwell, we work together to take care of people in need. It is important to remember our roots and the reasons why we do what we do.”
