Licensed Practical Nurse
Licensed practical nurses are responsible for providing professional nursing care to patients in support of and as directed by the physician. They observe, conduct and document a thorough assessment of patient’s medical status during entire course of treatment.
While continuing your career path from a licensed practical nurse to a registered nurse, you can pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing by utilizing Northwell’s tuition reimbursement program. This will allow you to broaden your patient care skills while also continuing your education.
Registered Nurse
Registered nurses perform an age specific plan of care for a designated group of patients using the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. They collaborate with physicians and other health team members in coordinating and implementing procedures and treatments. and clinical judgment in coordinating patient care to direct and delegate activities of the patient care unit team.
As you transition from a registered nurse to an acute care nurse practitioner, you will continue your education toward a master’s degree in a nurse practitioner program and national board certification in a specific area of specialty. This will allow you to continue advancing your patient care skills while also gaining experience in leadership.
Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
Acute care nurse practitioners perform a variety of functions and technical procedures necessary for patient admission, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and outcome evaluation. They participate in performance improvement, research and educational activities.
